About us
The Pears Cumbria School of Medicine is a unique partnership between University of Cumbria and Imperial College London designed to meet the region’s needs. This collaboration combines the University of Cumbria’s longstanding reputation in training healthcare professionals with Imperial College London’s world-class expertise in medical education.
The Pears Cumbria School of Medicine will produce doctors committed to delivering cutting-edge healthcare approaches and serve the needs of their local community.
Our tailored 4-year programme enrols graduate-entry students. Our focus is delivering the highest standard of training with an aim to improve health outcomes in Cumbria and the North West.
The curriculum will align with local healthcare planning and infrastructure, ensuring students acquire the skills needed to actively contribute to the NHS and local community. This includes emphasis on mental health care, which will be at the forefront of our practice.
Integrating into Cumbria’s wider network of healthcare organisations, our school will inspire students to develop and maintain essential relationships, guiding them through their training within the local area.
Over time, the medical school will support exciting new career opportunities in the region, and support local clinical providers in recruiting and retaining medical staff.
Through collaboration with local NHS partners and other stakeholders, we will establish research groups dedicated to addressing healthcare needs in the North West. These groups aim to enhance patient outcomes by fostering increased research activity.
To remove barriers to becoming a doctor, we have implemented a more inclusive application process. We are committed to widening access to medical education and raising aspirations for local people to consider a role in healthcare.
