Cumbria’s new medical school now open for applications

Applications for the new graduate entry programme in Medicine at the Pears Cumbria School of Medicine have opened for the first time today. 

Our unique partnership between the University of Cumbria and Imperial College London will focus on training doctors in Cumbria, for Cumbria. Based in Fusehill Street, Carlisle, the medical school will open its doors to the first cohort of students in August 2025.

Leaders from University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust have attended a ceremony at the University of Cumbria Lancaster campus to sign a Memorandum of Understanding to formalise the organisations’ partnership.

Local talent shapes Pears Cumbria School of Medicine development ahead of 2025 opening.

The team behind the development of the pioneering Pears Cumbria School of Medicine (PCSM) continues to expand, with local talent joining the team to shape its development and create the region’s first graduate-entry medical school, based in Carlisle.

Six of the latest new recruits are from Cumbria and are all excited to be part of a unique partnership that will see this bespoke, innovative and research-informed graduate-entry medical school open its doors in 2025.
